Alright, so I heard this through some guy I met today. Not sure if I believe you could actually pull this off, but eh... maybe. What do you guys think?

1. Buy dell laptop, buy extended warranty.
2. Receive laptop and chill for 30-45 days, whatever.
3. Call Dell tech support, tell them you puked on laptop.
4. Apparently puke on laptop is biohazard. They will not ask you to ship the laptop back to them, according to federal regulations you cannot do that? (Is that a valid statement?)
5. Receive new laptop, sell old one on ebay/craigslist/street corner.
6. ....
7. Profit!

You must be freaking joking! If I thought for a minute that you thought this up I would give you a vacation. The fool that thought this up must have only a single brain cell so he cannot be from AT. I am of the mindset that AT posters have at least two braincells to keep each other company.

Regardless of the plan Scarpozzi, you'd still be profiting. If it works the way he says he did it?

They do hire local people to do their service calls. I think there might be a good chance of Dell getting one of those guys to come out and visualy verify the claim. If they did that you'd be kinda screwed.

If I were Dell I'd send the tech. The few extra bucks to send him out vs. getting scammed by people like your "friend" would be worth it imho.

Even if this worked, they'd eventually get enough "I puked on my laptop!" calls that they'd definitely start verifying some of them.. Then you'll have to move on to something else.. Like you pooped on it or something. Or dropped it in a vat of acid and it completely disolved!

You think they'd still send somebody out if I told them I have Avian Flu? ;)

my friends did this...they just told dell that their motherboard died so apparently dell sent them a whole new laptop...but they are cheap asses and stole the new parts from the new computer (had a new video card, better "quality" dvd-rw apparently) and put them in their old laptops.

another friend worked in IT support for his college...he got a busted inspiron 6000 (for free - the person didnt think it was repairable so he just gave the laptop to them) and it still had a year or two left of completecare warranty, so he called dell, and dell sent him a brand new insprion 1505 that was semi loaded (1680x1050 screen, integrated graphics - yeah WTF).

seriously.....the things that people can get away with.

Complete care covers accidents I believe

yep. i have complete care for mine. It's an excellent warranty. Dell FTW (does apple offer something like this?) Total coverage from accidental damage (drops, spills, etc.). Also, 24hr support, overnight parts and next-day service at no cost  Just had an LCD replaced on my laptop a couple days ago. But I've never abused the warranty, nor will I. It's petty and they'll simply stop offering it if people abuse it. Adverse selection :(.

You could change up the story a little bit. I peeed on my laptop may be an acceptable alternative.

Whether you could get away with it or not, it's wrong. And assholes who do it cause the rest of us to pay higher rates for the machines AND the warranties.

I'm all for making a profit off of great deals from Dell and any other company, but this is pure fraud - plain and simple.

I had a customer bring in a Macbook the other day because the dog at the house he was house sitting pissed all over it while it was on....haha. We sold the guy a used ibook for the time being, but I told him to not leave it on the floor again since it sounded like the dog was a PC fan boy!
