Dell E2310H vs 2209WA? Will a gamer notice the IPS?

It'll be used for gaming. The E2310 has HD, and is only 225USD, while the 2209WA is only 1680x1050 at 350 USD... but the 2209WA is E-IPS!

I guess the central question is... will a gamer notice the supposedly better color on the 2209WA? Viewing angles don't matter to me.

If you every slouch in your gaming you will know. :) It's not really a viewing angle problem. If you look certain calibration pages with a TN monitor even with the perfect distance and line of sight you can see the color variation from top to bottom. That said, in a fast paced game I doubt you'd really notice anything.

If you've never used a non-TN panel before, or only used a PVA/MVA/IPS panel sparingly, you probably won't notice a difference. If you had the two side by side, it would be like night and day.

I'd say it depends on the game whether color accuracy matters or not. For example puzzle quest on a 24" gateway TN was horrible for me since the greens and yellows looked the same.
On most other games it probably won't make much difference as the colors don't matter either way though it could be ugly during movies.

Thank you all for answers!

I'm leaning towards the 2209WA because of the height adjustment now. I HATE looking down, makes my neck hurt.

But I read in the Xbitlabs Spring 2010 guide that it essentially was pointless to buy a 1680x1050 monitor at this point, now that larger HD monitors are so cheap, and with medias in general is going to HD. What do you guys think?

I've also thought about buying the Samsung Syncmaster 2443BW, which literally has everything I want (1920x1200 (16:10), height, tilt and other adjustments and it's matte). Problem is that it's 410 USD. Is it worth it?

BTW, I have a 5 year old NEC Mulitsync 1770NX which is still going strong, I've never seen any fault with it to be honest. I love it, but I feel I'm missing out on the newer gaming experiences without a widescreen monitor.

410 bucks for a TN panel, no thanks...

I'm looking for a monitor myself actually, unfortunately what I want doesn't exist yet...

LED backlight
24~26" in size
Non TN panel

I suppose you could do the Dell Ultrasharp U2410. It's not LED, but it's H-IPS (and RELATIVELY cheap).

LED backlighting doesn't do much besides saving power anyway.

Aren't the apple cinemas non TN and using LEDs now?

No LED backlighting helps a lot with color uniformity as well. Good LED backlighting can provide a wider color gamut than other LCD monitors. Cheap LED backlit displays probably don't do this.

Consider the NEC EA231WMi. It won't rival a $1000+ monitor, but for the $300-350 street price, it's EXCELLENT.

23", 1920x1080, E-IPS, height, tilt, swivel, landscape + portrait, DVI, DisplayPort, VGA (no native HDMI, need an adapter), etc. It even has built in speakers, which will definitely suck for sound quality, but can make do in a pinch.

If you were talking to me, it's 540 USD in my country, so it's a segment too high for me.

Yes I know but I don't trust Apple in any shape or form. There might be compatibilty issues, there might not besides their prices are ridiculous. I don't mind spending 1000 bucks on a monitor but it better be worth it and that monitor isn't.
