I saw a thread on this in the hot deals section, and i'm wondering if anyone has one, or has had experience with them. i am thinking of getting 2 of them so that my computer will finally have 2 matching LCD's. i'm a college student and on a budget. i'm not looking for anything super high performance, but i want a nice, well rounded display that will do okay with a moderate amount of gaming. any input would be appreciated.

edit: with coupons, $211 each shipped, since that will obviously affect everyone's advice.

They aren't bad for the money. I have one on my "general purpose" PC, which my wife and son use primarily. If I had to do it over again, I probably would have purchased a 17" instead. The pixels are a bit on the large size, so text isn't as crisp as it could be. But, most (all?) 19" LCDs have this issue since they're kind of an odd size IMO. They're not large enough for 1600x1200, but they're too big for 1280x1024.

Still, $211 is a great deal. I think I paid $240 for mine.

are the 1704s cheaper? the 'e' series lcds from dell don't have dvi inputs, iirc. the only thing you gain is bigger text on the 19"

and if a 19" (18" vis) CRT is big enough for 1600x1200 a 19" LCD certainly is big enough for 1600x1200.

I had a 19" CRT, but anything higher than 1280x1024 was too small for me. YMMV.

I have one...and I like it so far. I got it few months ago for 240 (which was realll cheap) in my last month of college. I liked it a lot, wish I had one long ago...but had to buy it cus my 17in crt went dead.
The text is the only weird thing that ppl complain about and I can see that, but you get used to it, or wont even notice it. It runs on 1280x1024 resolution and gaming is great. I just played HL2 on it at this resolution, and im an average gamer....to me, it didnt look anything different. I say go for it if you are really looking for a "good" yet cheap monitor, especially since you are not a hardcore gamer.
Im not sure why you want 2 though?? This one does not have DVI...but you can get a DVI to VGA adapter, and extend your monitor on it..so possibly have dual displays. But I havent tried it, nor seen anyone with a dual setup with this monitor.
I have aDVI to VGA adapter, and I just realized it. Im gonna try to hook it up now, to see if its any different (which i doubt, since im not a videophile, and prolly ownt notice it). But anyways..will let yall know.
BTW, does anyone know how to enable the DVI without having to restart my computer, and switching my wires when it off??
