cuztomized DELL XPS M1710 Metallic Black

EVERYTHING IS THE SAME except:

Hard Drive: 100GB 7200RPM (free Upgrade)
Accessories: none except a carrying case (free)

AND it DOESNT INCLUDE the printer!

Total: $3177 CAD - about $2870 USD plus taxes.

HOW and WHY is the XPS more when the Inspiron ultimately is the better package and deal looking at the parts and what's included. its the exact same system...

what am i missing/overlooking here? is there a reason and a benefit to get the XPS of the Inspiron? im buying this today most likely so i need some help please!

thanks!

dell= hell they will explode on you evil..... I wount get dell peroid. GEt a desktop or a tablet pc, that is aroun 1,200-1,500 save some omeny and buy a desktop for all your gaming needs.

The XPS costs more because it is targeted as as a "mobile entertainment powerhouse" where the Inspiron is a productivity workstation. You pay more for the "ooh shiny" factor of the name and the decorated metallic case on the XPS. 😛

Also, there was a $250 discount on all Inspiron's over $1199 when you priced the system. (It expired on the 23rd unfortunately).

Sure it is. If you can't see what makes the XPS worth $500 more, then it isn't. Just buy the 9400.

Ya, after exhaustive research, the only difference is you get XPS preferred service. Apparently that is worth the $400. I went w/ the e1705 (almost the exact build you have only I didn't opt for the extra gig of ram as I planned on buying it after-market - cheaper and I know what I'm getting). Though I must admit, the XPS 1210 does interest me if they'd only slap a 7600 in there.

hmm well after close thought and replies from many ppl on many forums, 2 days ago i went with the 9400 that exact setup minus the TV tuner. my buddy has a 9400 with diff specs but same tuner i was gona get and he said it was sh*t so i got rid of that. and i have a different source for that amazing printer thats cheaper so thats gone too.

a question now

that new "N" technology of the wireless cards and routeres that is out now -- for that N card thats in my lappy, do i need an "N" router? im pretty sure this sounds like a noob question but sorry -- im not sure how "N" works and im not sure most ppl do yet.

if anyone knows please help out!!

Wireless Draft N or whatever just gives you more wireless bandwidth and a little more range for a lot more cost. If you regularly transfer movies, many songs, or backups across your wireless network, then you may want that extra speed. I believe it can go up to 12x faster than wireless G. Probably about 40% more range would be my guess too, but its not worth it in my opinion. My family has a Linkysys WRT54G and that works just fine for us across the house. However, a friend of mine has a Netgear, and you don't have to restart it or wait after making changes, plus the index page loads insantly which is nice. Check this deal out here.

However, if you are a noob with wireless, then you probably won't be able to setup a secure wireless network yourself without a bit of trouble. Still, it would probably be worth doing just to you learn! Good luck!
