Hey I recently got a dell dj 20 gen2. It's a nice little inexpensive player. However i realized that I am unable to store information on this device like any standard removable media. Such things as a portable HD. I was actually promised this by a dell representative at my local mall. Any way i can't return it now. Is there anyway i can modify the firmware to perform this feature? Or do any of you know where i could possibly obtain a copy of the source code, i think it's in C, for the dj? My only problem now is that i'm able to break the new firmware into assembly but unfortunatly i don't enough about assembly to do anything with it. Can you guys help me out?

Welcome to AT. (although it looks like you've been lurking for a while ;))

If it's anything like my old generation DJ, you need to use the Dell File manager program (it's not plug and play for the portable harddrive usage, you need the program on computers you want to use this function with).

I'm not sure if it applies to the new generation, but it probably does.

The program should be on your cds that came with it.

It is a portable harddrive, you just need the program on each computer to transfer files to and from the DJ.

You should return it, if possible, as you were sold on the product by a feature that it does not have.

Maybe check w/ your local BBB, as see if you can find out if any local, or national even, laws, allow for that (if so, pressure the folks that sold it to you like hell).

It does not function as a normal external USB HDD. It requires a separate application to be installed. This is an intentional choice on Creative's part, likely to limit its ability to be used to perform unauthorized distribution of various material, like music.
