Dell Dimension XPS

I was wondering if anyone knows if you can OC the XPS safely.

From looking at it, it appears to have really good cooling but i've heard Dell doesn't want people OCing so the cooling isn't that great.

Anyone know?

Also...does anyone know what motherboards the XPS uses?

dell disables any overclocking options on their computers. although, the video card is still overclockable.

dell XPS is just a gamer wannabe expensive POS IMO...any TRUE gamer would make their own computer.

They're definitely nice looking and very easy to work on (even compared to an Antec!) The cooling is quite adequate and generally very quiet, which is a good thing. They use Intel branded motherboards, but no overclocking can be done on the mb.

I don't think if I'd call them a "gamer wannabe expensive POS" but if you're up to a little work, a faster machine can be had for a less.

What about that OCing program that lets you OC from your desktop?

$1799 for a p4 3.0c, 2GB Dual Channel PC3200 RAM, 120 GB HD, Monitor, Audigy 2, GeForce FX5200, 48x CD-RW, DVD-ROM, case, ethernet card, windows xp pro, office isn't a bad deal...

I forgot the name of it off the top of my head..

one more thing: do you think ibuypower.com has good prices

a 3.0C with a 5200 is like a corvette with a geo metro engine. BARF.

Dell doesn't offer a fx5900, so i was going to take the cheapest card, and then upgrade to a ~$200 fx5900.

why not just build your own system and save a butt load of money?

The program is called ClockGen, and I really like using it. Here's the link. It's probably the only way to overclock a Dell, because it allows you to set the AGP frequency also. So, if the motherboard doesn't have an AGP lock, just keep putting it back to 66mhz, and all will be well.

No and dont do it. Youre much better off going to newegg, buying the parts and if your faint hearted at putting stuff together, go to compusa. 100 bucks to build it and work is guaranteed. I would NEVER EVER EVER buy a dell. Theyre garbage. They cater to people who couldnt tell a 9800 pro with a sis xabre 😛
