Dell Dimension XPS T550 CPU Upgrade Questions

I'm looking to upgrade my unmodified Dell Dimension XPS T550 system. It's currently a Pentium III 550 (x86 Family 6 Model 7 Stepping 3, "Katmai"), and was looking to get it clocked as high as possible without replacing the motherboard or overclocking. If this upgrade went through, I would upgrade the memory and video card, simpler processes. And perhaps try overclocking, not sure about that one yet.

Based off of everything I could find online and Dell documentation, the motherboard is an Intel SE440BX-2, a Slot 1, which is capable of handling up to Pentium III 850 MHz Coppermine, but only for motherboards with revision numbers:

754552-200 or later
754558-200 or later
A01450-200 or later

The number on my motherboard is 722396-304, which isn't listed which disheartened me until I found on some other pages that

<< "However, these numbers refer to Intel-branded boards. Dell boards will almost certainly use entirely different AA numbers, so if your board has an AA number not in these ranges, don't panic." >>

Now, I'm not going to purchase a new processor and slocket to connect it without being almost positive that it's going to work. So I was wondering if anyone here knew of any resources that would give me some information about this problem or if they've gone through this themselves.

And if it is possible for me to perform this upgrade, any suggestions on the Slocket to use. I've seen good things about the Iwill Slocket II, but would like any help here also.

Also, on the Intel page for the motherboard, it says that that BIOS version P14 and up support those higher clocked chips. Currently, the Dell BIOS for my system is at A12, and I'm not sure if there would be a problem using the Intel supplied BIOS or should I stick with the Dell BIOS.

All information or suggestions accepted and appreciated.
