dell dimension 9100

Purchased some ocz value ram (pc2-4200, ddr2) from newegg and tried putting it into the dell, but it's not working? Tried putting two sticks in and it doesn't start up at all, when one stick is in, it's recognized but windows keeps restarting itself. Is the ram not compatible? (the Dell ram is also pc2-4200 ddr2, but they were charging SO much more, and i figured that the ocz ram should work fine in the 9100)

maybe bad sticks? did you try on another rig? tried other brand on your DELL?

i know Micron, Crucial, Corsair and Kingston ram work on my 8400. i have a 9100 but im selling that just because i dont like the new BTX form factor (i have 4 hdd and an optical now in my 8400, not to mention 8400 has gigabit ethernet built in)

ah, i checked the bleedingedge forums and it says that the value ram runs at 4-4-4-8 timings, while the dell's default ram runs at 4-3-3-8, so it's trying to run the ocz ram at those same timings. I wonder if there's any way to change that, or if I have to return the ocz ram.

wait dude. all my XPS and 8400 RAM (micron, samsung) that came with Dell are all 4-4-4-?

First thing to do is download CPU-Z and see what the default Dell timings are so you know for sure. Never take someone else's word for it. The OCZ memory might require something more from the computer then the computer can give. I think it would be best to match some new memory with the timings Dell has for compatibility.

Hi, I have the same problem as trapper, I was just wondering if you solved your problem or not. I would also like to upgrade the ram, I didn't think i would have a problem but seeing that you do and others, i guess i will.

Any recommendations?
