Ok so I've got a bunch of these new Dimension 8400's with the new intel mainboards and all. Except my Windows XP disc won't load a driver for the hard drive controller. I need a driver disc that will work when I press F6 when booting off the windows cd. I have the SATA RAID driver disc but not the regular disc.

I've called Dell they are useless. The Tech can't seem to understand why I'm not using their software. ( I have a Microsoft VLP licensed CD I have to use)

any ideas?

You can get them directly from Dell's support site. No need to call them. Just look for SATA drivers in their support section under Dimension 8400. You can also get them off Intel's site.

Ok here's the deal. The drivers on the Dell website are only for the RAID Controller. But what I did is go into the BIOS of the Dimension 8400 and went to SATA OPtions. Then I set the option to be in Combination Mode instead of default. Now the Windows CD's boots up and detects the controller fine.

Hopefully this might help someone else later down the road.

Download the file and check it out. It says RAID controller and it's true it is. The SATA controller on this board is the RAID controller. They are all contained in the ICH6R hub which is what the drivers are for. I downloaded it and verified this in the readme file.

After you load XP on there you'll still need to load the chipset drivers on there.
