Dell Dimension 8100 Case Mod

Hi all,

I have a major question. I currently have a Dell Dimension 8100 case and because RDRAM is so expensive i've decided to upgrade the system instead. I have a friend who said he can get me a motherboard from a Dell Dimension 8300, so i was wondering if i got the Dell Dimension 8300 Motheboard, will it be able to fit into the Dell Dimension 8100 case without a hitch.

Also if/when i'm able to use the Dell Dimension 8300 Motherboard in the Dell Dimension 8100 case, will i have problems connecting the power strip thingy that the 8100 case currently uses to power on the new motherboard once i put it in. If that doesn't fit, what the next best Dell Dimension Motherboard model that i can look to put into the Dell Dimension 8100 case that will give me the ability to put in a processor capable of atleast 2.6Ghz?

If any of you can help me, i would be greatly appreciative.

Any suggestion anyone? I heard that the Dell Dimension 8300 motherboard won't fit in this case, is the true, because this case i a fairly roomy case.

That is the 64 dollar question, and I've found it isn't exactly easy to find out Dell motherboad specs etc. If Dell is trying to make supporting their computers quick and easy, they would use the same connector with all of their motherboards. That way their technicians can spend less time connecting things back to gether when working on computers, and building them would go a bit faster too. One plug and boom, your done - rather than, gee, I wonder if I got the all those itsy bitsy connectors on the right pin and is the polarity correct? Sure, it's not rocket science and even a sot like me can connect those case plugs up to motherboards as long as they are marked or there is a diagram. It's more a matter of speeding up the process of building or replacing.

Anyway, sorry I don't know the answer - but it would be completely logical that the case single connector used in Dell PC's would be the same for all/most of there computers, or else it would defeat the purpose of having it. As for case - mobo fit, as long as the case is big enough, I"m guessing that will work too.
