Dell Dimension 4600 question

Can the Dell Dimension 4600 be overclocked? It looks like it comes with a standard 865 chipset, but I'm wondering if they prevent overclocking like other OEM do. Anyone have one of these computers?

Doh!!! I should have used the search feature before; found that the Dimension 4600 with the 845 chipset can't be overclocked. Still wondering about the 865 chipset one though.

Correction. The 845's can (as long as it supports the 533 bus natively and you have a 400fsb CPU in there.)
The 865 & 875 can't at the moment. They are stuck @ 200fsb.

Yup: a confirmation on that. They are stuck at 200 fsb. Still runs pretty sweet though, 2.4@800 on par with my 2.53@533 for the most part.

Your wrong my friend. I have said this many times before and i will repeat it again here, "YOU CAN SUCCESSFULLY OVERCLOCK a DELL". You just need some brains to do so 😉. It might cost you some $$ though.

Instructions to overclock:

1) Go and purchase a clock from your local store.
2) Come back home and take the DELL out from its normal sitting place.
3) Place the clock at the place of the the DELL.
4) Place the DELL over the clock.

and you have an OVERCLOCKED DELL 😀
Now, isnt that easy ? 😉

Nice one gsethi,

Well, one nice thing about this dell is how quiet it is. I'm really amazed, I think my laptop is louder (when the cpu fan comes on).

I'm still a hardcore DIY builder, but this Dell was money well spent IMHO.

Thanks for all the replies.
