I was wondering if the motherboard in the Dell Dimension 4400 can support a 478-pin Northwood P4 processor. I don't even know if it's a 478-pin socket for the CPU! If so, is there any clock speed limitation in the bios?

Thanks for any info.

Winston.

They should support the Northwood A core (not Northwood B). Yes it is an mPGA478 socket.

Thanks for the info. I did get the Dell deal when it was on for about $450 for a complete system without monitor. I figured it was cheap enough, so was worthwhile to replace one of my old computers.

You're right about the bios options - no way to easily overclock. That's why I wanted to see if there's an upgrade path a couple years down the road when those Northwood A 2.2 GHz processors are cheap! :)
