Dell Desktops vs Servers

So what is the difference between these two anyway (performance-wise)? Can't I just buy the cheaper server with no O/S (install my own) and slap a vid car in there and call it a desktop for gaming/surfing? Of course it won't be a top notch gaming system, but for the money, wouldn't it make more sense? Dell server is $270 in the Hot Deals and a desktop is about $500.
 
you also get "free" noise with the server. Upgrading memory will be somewhat expensive since you can't use regular memory
 
Ahh.. no AGP.. that could be a problem when wanting to play games. 😀

So would I need specific Dell memory sticks or should generic/brand name stuff work also?

You can get it down way more than that if you can wait.

Dell usually e-mails their customers 15% off Dell SB coupons, plus has $100 rebates, free shipping and some sort of free upgrade.

If you play your cards right you could get it for around $450 shipped including taxes.
 
Why, would you buy it at $550.00? Just strip the hell out of it. That's about all I can tell ya. The warranty is one of the biggies. Take it back to 1 year on-site.

I've ordered at least 3 desktop systems from Dell SB.

Do I get coupons? NOOOOOO I have to resort to begging for coupons 🙁

Well, I'd love to order one, but I'm going back to Oregon to finish school at the end of this month. Maybe when I'm back in Minnesota in the summer, I'll look into replacing this PIII 700 BX computer.
