Dell D600 hard drive - WTH?

EDIT: Hah! Nevermind. I just realized that the slot thingy actually slides off the old HDD so I can put it on the new one. DUH!

I'm trying to replace a hard drive on an older Dell D600 laptop. When I looked up what kind of hard drive it uses it says it uses an ATA-100 drive. Ok, no problem. So I open the case up and take the hard drive out and this is what I see.

That's some kind of slot thing whereas the replacement hard drive I bought has pins. All other ATA-100 laptop drives I looked at have pins too.

Is this a Dell only thing? I tried the new HDD and the laptop wouldn't recognize it.

Yeah. I believe they're called interposer boards. They can be a little tricky getting on/off and not bend the pins.

Thank goodness SATA came along and the systemboard mfrs. started using direct connect.
