dell d500 standby mode...

when i close the laptop...it goes to standby mode and the only way for me to get it out of standby is by hitting the power button.

i checked under power management, advanced tab and there is an option to set it to not go to stand by mode when the lid is closed. but that is not what i want. i want to be able to close the lid have it go to standby, and then when i open it back up, it should pop out of standby mode. Is that possible on this laptop?

help is appreciated.

Do you have Dell Quickset installed?

At least on my Inspiron 510m I can control what happens when I close the laptop with Quickset.

is the little pin getting stuck down? I believe it's on the upper left hand side of the keyboard, a small pin that when pushed down denotes 'lid down'.

nope pin isn't stuck down...i tried pressing it and it comes right back up.

i'll give quick set a try it is installed...i didn't know what it was for

edit: gave quickset a try, but same thing as going in to screensaver>power>advanced...

still doesn't hop out of standby when i open top...when i first got the laptop it did it but now it doesn't anymore...weird

I have the same problem with my D600 too. When I was using AC power and go into the standby mode, i have no problem exit from it. However, when I use the Battery power, the notebook power button light is on but I just can't wake up the laptop from the standby mode.

is that because I update some stuff from the microsoft or because I use the speedswitch XP?
