Dell Crap

At work we have those Dell's business desktops with C2D and (gross) onboard graphics, and there's PCI-e x16 slot in them...

...so I was given 8600GTS to drive 2nd monitor.

... and tech guy tried to install it, but guess what: there's not a molex or PCI-e connector present from PSU; only few SATA and one for floppy.

I told him to just plug it in, it is gonna work on lower clocks and give me message each time, which did happen.

They cut costs even on cables, I can only imagine what kind of crap that PSU is.

Hell, Dell2005 wasn't like previous versions either! Dell's been off their game for a LONG time now. I have a fairly influential say on what we buy at work (300 desktops per year,= 33% refresh rate...plus a few notebooks here and there) and I haven't recommended Dell for quite a few years now.

I've been very happy with the AMD X2 boxes we bought. We've had a few PS failures (OEM crap is OEM crap but HPs crap seems better than Dell's) but HP's been very responsive.

Dell = :thumbsdown:

I totally agree...

Where I work, we have thousands of Dell GX280s from a couple years ago. They had close to a 25% failure rate due to PSU, hard drive, leaky mobo capacitors, you name it. They got better with the 620 series, but still...

We switched to HP DC7700 SFF's recently, and we have less than 5% failure rate. And next day on-site service FTW.

This is interesting news... about Dell and HP. I am looking for a new laptop and I had been thinking about getting a Dell Vostro, but I don't know if I want to stay away from it now.

Dell desktop != Dell notebook

Different OEMs make notebooks, only common thing between dell desktop and notebook is the dell logo and crap installed with windows.
