its not the resoultion, it is the actual screen size, has gone smaller than the real physical screen...

To be honest then, I dont know. The onyl thing I know is that the resolution is lower than the native resolution of the display. I would recomend checking driver settings / updating Drivers if avaliable. Perhaps a photo so we can look what it looks like aswell?

I think those old laptops can't support anything but their native resolution. I had an old Dell CSx500 laptop that was like that. You had to keep it at 1024x768, otherwise if you increased the resolution beyond that, it would just show your desktop with those borders.

yall know what i mean, you have seen it with CRT monitors, where you can shrink the screen with the buttons on the monitor. This is like the same thing but with my laptop lcd..

Not likely.

My advice is to try installing D*mn Small Linux (DSL). IIRC, the Latitude CP line used Pentium 1's, correct?

Also, you might be able to shoehorn in a 400mhz Celeron, if it uses a MMC1 CPU module.

Did that Latitude CP Laptop originally had Windows 2000 on it?
I remember AFAIK a 233MHz processor, <10GB HDD, 96MB/128MB RAM.

If so, Win XP needs at least 256MB to surf the Internet and general usage, otherwise you will have a sluggish machine plus other problems.

Tasks Functionality Amount of RAM
Enough to Boot Absolute Minimum 128 MB
Word Processing Barely Functional 128 MB - 256 MB
General Computing/Web Surfing Functional 256 MB - 384 MB
Gaming/Music Optimal 384 MB - 512 MB
Heavy Graphics/Gaming Smooth Sailing 512 MB and up

IMO, I believe that your Dell CP cannot be upgraded to handle those requirements.
Try reinstalling Win 2000 and you may resolve your screen problem.
