Dell computers have invalid Windows?

5 customers today call, saying the dell computers they bought within the last 2 weeks will not let them do windows updates, as windows comes back and says they have an invalid windows key ect. Anyone else ever experience this?
 
thought microsoft did something with all big retailers that put oem windows on their cpu
that made the customer register their keycode via telephone or something
 
I believe sometimes with dell computers you actually have to type in the product key on the side of the machine... or that's the way it was a few weeks ago when I was working on a bunch of them.

It has to do with the fact that they're all imaged from dell...

They had other problems, this was one of those questions they asked on the side. Just thought it was odd that they all asked today.
