I just ordered a Dell PC for a friend and they got the free 720 printer.

I'm just curious to see how this printer stacks up?

Is it a rebadged printer?

Looking for some reviews.

Thanks,
Mer.

I think Dell printers are mostly Lexmark rebage jobs; but with incompatible ink/toner cartridges(have to be purchased from Dell).

From what I was able to find it looks like the usual cheap inkjet. Mature enough tech to not totally suck; but the ink costs will bleed you horribly and Lexmark isn't exactly the cream of the crop, driver wise(I'm not sure if Dell rebages have the spyware in the driver, or if only name-brand Lexmarks do).

In general I have to agree with phishrow; I have no personal experience with them, but I've met a number of people who've been unhappy with their Dell printers. On the other hand, I'm not sure if I've talked to anyone with that had that particular model, and very few printers these days will do a less than acceptable job. As far as I know, though, the Dells are all Lexmark rebadges. The need to purchase ink cartridges from Dell is something to consider; ink costs tend to dwarf the price of the actual printer in the long run for all inkjets.

RE:"I'm just curious to see how this printer stacks up?"

It will stack up well in the dumpster after your empty the cartridges.

Then you can buy an ip3000 canon for $29.95 AR at office Depot before the 18th of June.

Yup, once he runs thru the OEM ink, he'll find out why Lexmark/Dell inkjet printers have such bad word-of-mouth. The print quality is decent but the cost of ownership is outrageous (unless he is willing to refill the cartridges himself - the only way to make a LexDell reasonable to own).
. If I were your friend, I'd grab a Canon iP4000 while the price is down around $100. AR and sell that LexDell dog on eBay while it's new (looks like hundreds of others had the same idea...) and he may be able to get something for it from some unaware buyer. Once it's been used (ink cartridges opened), it won't be worth more than a dog poo you scrape up from your yard...

iP4000 is $49.99 after rebates at Office Depot through Saturday (in store purchases only)

It is $119.99 with a $50 Office Depot rebate and the $20 Canon rebate

Damn, I wish I lived near an OD!!! My iP3k would be on eBay faster than Slick Willie could prop a chunky monkey... ;) Anyone that lives near one in a low-sales tax state open to a bit of negotiation???
