Woo Hoo, Just got this awesome offer.

Here's a review where PCWorld gave it their top pick for printers.
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,123224,00.asp

Only major difference between the 3100 and 3000 is an extra paper tray.

Step 1, go to the Dell Holiday Game: http://www.dell.com/holiday and click the stockings to get a 30% off any Color Laser Printer coupon. Might have to try a few times.

The coupon is only good at the Home/Home Office site or the deal would be even better...

Problem is, the website won't accept the coupon for some reason (probably because the printer is already on sale) so you have to call Dell (1-800-999-3355) and go to the Printer Purchase area and have them apply it manually.

Anyway

Here's how it breaks down.

3100CN List Price - $499
3100CN Sale Price - $349
30% off Coupon - $104
Final price for printer - $244

Tax - $15.26
Service Contract Tax - $3.52
Handling - $10
Shipping - FREE
TOTAL - $272.78

Darn awesome price for the 3100CN printer.

3000CN should end up being about $20 less but you get a whole extra paper tray and such so I'd pay the extra $20.

Ive gotta say that the $45 price for a 4000 page black toner cart from dell is pretty fair, too. Color is $85 per (x3), but I don't know what other printers cost to run in color, either. The black cost is good, though.

Their database is broken or something. When I try to enter the characters in the picture, they don't match. I tried 5 or 6 times. Hope they fix it because I really want that laser printer.

Just tried this and failed. If I could have gotten the 30% off I was also going to buy another item and use the 45 off from the holiday game too. The 45 off does stack in the cart so maybe if the sale goes off before the 30th we can get it for ~305. 499-30%-$45 after the instant 100 expires.

Don't know if it works any more but it worked when I called them up.

Got my printer last week and it works great. $266 including shipping, tax, and everything.

A couple of you need to read the OP's original post. He said it did not work online but when he called Dell the rep took his order and honored the coupon. Get it? You gotta call.

I just picked one of these printers up for my office.

I highly recomend upgrading the memory, with the default memory the start up time was a little slow. Quality wise, I don't think you can ask for anything more for the price. The biggest negative is that the machine is loud when printing (but I would imagine most four pass lasers are). It's also pretty big!

Overall though, definitely a good buy!

You upgrade the memory by adding a PC100/133 standard laptop memory module (up to 512mb) in the open memory slot, behind a small access panel.
I upgraded mine with an extra 128mb, and it made a big difference.
Certainly the best laser color printer for the $ and it has built in ethernet (great for home network and on top of that, toner refills are the cheapest on the market for laser color printers).

I called Dell and they would not apply the 30 percent off. They said it was not a stackable coupon. I argued that there was not a coupon on it already and they still would not honor it.

if you are considering the 3000 over the 3100 i think the postscript inclusion on the 3100 should answer the debate. it is worth it. it is a shame they don't give you the duplex option which is like $300 by itself as i recall. i am very tempted.

I called back and argued the fine print again. The offer states that the sale price can be used with other offers of discounts. After a long discussion they compromised and I got the 3100cn for $300 shipped plus tax. I still think they should have honored the deal according to the wording on their website but the $300 price is still very good.

I would say that it depends on your environment, how many people are printing and how big their jobs are. I went with 256MB myself but my office consists of a small workgroup.

I tried both PC100 and PC133, they both worked just fine.
I went with the PC133 (faster memory is always better).
I Have quite a few modules at work from old laptops we retired, the following "Manufacturer" worked:
Infineon
Compaq
Kingston
"No name" Dell

My 3000cn at home is running with an extra 128mb, connected to my home network via ethernet, with 4 computers accessing it. I print anywhere to it anything from web pages to Powerpoint presentation or Visio files up to 50mb with no problem what so ever, so you should be fine with 256mb.

I think they changed the offer immediately after I called. It was probably a mistake and the price was even changed to $400 after the $100 off. When I placed my order online the order siad that you could use other coupons or offers with the $349 price. It would not allow the coupon code and I called. I pointed this out to them but they still would not honor the 30 percent off deal and ended up giving it to me for a bit under $300 plus tax shipped. Immediately after my order the pricing was changed and also the wording in the discount pricing. It seems Dell has learned from past mistakes and now corrects errors quickly.

Go to Dell home: 3100cn. Use the 30% and $45/50 off $400 to get a price of $304.30/$299.30 + tax. Add FW cash back and 5% discover (or 2% dpa if you're using the $50off$400) and that should cover the tax. Not as good of a deal as the OP's, though.
