Hey guys. Sort of have a dilemma here. I have an OG rMBP from that I use as my main unit. I just ordered a $529 Dell Chromebook 13 to use as my portable and travel computer. Thing is my friend let me borrow his top spec XPS 13 for the past few weeks and I'm sort of in love with this thing. Now the starting price of the base XPS 13 is $799 so I'm sort of tempted by it.

Do you guys think it's worth it to upgrade and pay the extra $270 to go from the Chromebook 13 to the XPS 13? What would you do?

Thanks!

We can't tell you how to spend your money, they serve different purposes. Buy what you need.

Funny, I've been eyeing the Dell Chromebook 13 to replace my 11.6" - 2 gigs is starting to hurt with all of the recent Chrome updates. I'm thinking an i5 + 8 gigs, even though it's mad expensive for a Chromebook. OTOH, I just setup a few people up with the XPS 13's & they are glorious (3200x1800 touchscreen models). Pricing is great for what you get too, basically a moderized Macbook Air. Windows 10 is surprisingly good.

However...I really like the Chromebook concept. I never have to futz with it. It just...works. Although I was just in a hotel for awhile with 0.9-meg Internet (basically modern-day dial-up wifi) & having nothing local wasn't too fun either. So it depends on how you'd use it. For me, my Chromebook is a zero-mental-stress kind of thing. Never have to think about it, which is why I'm considering the pricier model just to stay ahead of the web's technology requirements.

If you're specing that much why don't you just get the cb pixel 2?

1. Don't like the design (edges too square)
2. Prefer HD to UHD
3. $1,000+ for the Pixel 2 (vs. $650 for the i5 + 8GB Dell CB 13)

tbh tho, if I had $1,300 lying around, I'd totally buy the 16-gig RAM version

haha nice. I thought you had the $900 spec which was close to cb 2 territory. I got the $529 one.

You'll like it...instant-on, no antivirus to run or other security to fiddle with, handles system updates itself (asks you to reboot occasionally, but it's a quick restart), basically all you have to do is use it! I really like my 11.6" Chromebook, but the last few updates killed usability for multiple tabs on 2 gigs of RAM, so I'm thinking of an 8-gig model next. I like the Toshiba 13" Chromebook, the Dell, and possibly the Pixel. Leaning towards the Dell due to the 8-gig feature for $650 with the i5. I'll see if they come out with an X7 model though...maybe Santa will be good to me this year
