Hi guys,

do you know if Dell charges taxes if you order over the phone.
3 years ago I ordered to california over the phone and they didn't charge me taxes.
This week I ordered online to CA and it charged me taxes.

Do you guys know anything about Dell and taxes?

Thanks a lot

Dell probably now has a physical presence in CA. I ordered from them the other day; no tax for IN.

I thought this forum was the one that came closer to my subject. No paying taxes is a good deal. So if there is a trick, to order over the phone versus online, we should all know.

Since this is not a hot deal it belongs in the How Do I thread.

If Dell has a physical presence in CA and your shipping address is also in CA, you will be charged taxes. It shouldn't matter whether you order over the phone, fax or online.

<--- Oregon has 0% sales tax whether it's Dell Home or Dell Small Business :p

They have physical presence in many malls such as Dell booth. There is one in the Ontairo Mills Mall. Just two guys in Dell dress shirts passing out pamphlets and would assit customers to order online.

kinda hard to get around no taxes unless you are tax-exempt. Dell charges taxes in alot of states now so the only ways to avoid it would be to move out of a state that has a Dell Prescence (kiosk, store, etc...) or move to a state with no taxes like Oregon and New Hampshire.

lol if u live in cali you pretty much have to pay tax on everything you buy. Most of the best deals have locations , located in california :( It's something you just got to deal with.

Did you even ask the Dell rep while you were on the phone why you were charged taxes? I'm sure they would have said told you because they now have kiosks in the malls of California.

If Dell has a physical presence in CA, you bought a something from a vendor in CA therefore, you have to pay CA sales tax just like anything else.

Yeah.. They just started charging tax a year or so ago here in IL for Dell Home. It used to be just for Dell Business. It kind of kills the deals for me now.

Dell Home started taxing CA residents about a year ago. Not sure exactly when they started. Dell SB has always charged tax.
