Anybody know where I can get a case that looks similiar to the cases Dell uses? The normal towers, not the desktops that sit vertical.

Dell is too big they make their own cases, might find one or a barebones on ebay or something like that. Not like Alienware, or Micron..

Why?
Because I want one.

I know I can't get an exact Dell case without actually ordering a Dell, but are there any look alikes out there that look pretty similar to them?

No desktop sits vertically... Towers stand vertically. Desktop cases lie horizontally.

BTW Dell uses Palo Alto cases... That was a long time ago, though. Maybe they switched manuf.s?

Those "clam-shell" dell cases seem to be unique to dell, the mounting equipment even looks different so I'm not even sure a direct swap would work. As far as the features go, the screwless design and front usb are available on other cases...

I've actually pleaded with Dell to just sell me a case (i like them too) but obviously they refused. :)

Well, they have those space saving towers, and that's what I meant. They look like desktops because of how the rom and floppy are situated.
Link to what I mean...HERE.

Most likely that Dell 4300S case is a mATX or Flex ATX case, which means you're quite limited by what mobos you can use in those cases. http://www.addtronics.com/2901.htm That addtronics case is comparable. IMO, you should stick with a decent-sized tower for its cooling and expansion benefits. In the predicament of space vs. cooling, cooling surely outweighs any issue of space for me :)

I don't want those types of cases, I want a Dell tower. From my original post. Thanks anyway.

Last I heard they were custom made for Dell by Chenming. Looking at the Chenming cases available retail, none of them appear to come even close.

My Dimension XPSR400 has custom power connectors from the power supply (it's not the ATX standard type, but there are directions on the net on how to convert that PS into standard ATX if you wanted to switch the mobo) to the mobo and also the front buttons are not standard. They too have a special connection to the motherboard, in fact..those buttons have a little board with some chips on it. Dell definitely gets custom made cases, but they are VERY nice. This XPSR400 only has 1 exhaust fan, and it's a p2-400!! there isn't even a fan on the p2 chip! The air flows extremely well through their cases, and they even have the HD situated vertical in front of the front intake vents..so that gets good cooling too. They make awesome cases, and I'm positive that they do design in-house at dell. I've read some articles before that talked about how the big name companies take everything into consideration when building a system (case quietness, cooling, power, etc.)

In other words, you will only be able to pick a case up at ebay, or if someone is junking their dell. Good luck!

BTW that case cools almost like none other... with that manifold it gets a really cool 32c with the retail fan..... thats the 1gig athlon.....
