Hi, I recently bought a used Dell computer which came with Windows XP Home that was purchased with the system.

I plan on using Windows XP Pro and wondered if I can install the XP Home onto an older, slower machine, which I was going to give away, which is NOT a Dell branded pc.

Is this legal and/or will there be any installation/activation issues?

Thanks in advance.

edit
I just realized that I posted this in "software - apps" and not "operating systems". If necessary, would a mod please move this for me to the appropriate forum? thanks.

No reason you wouldn't be able to install it in other computers. I don't think Dell modify the XP Home source code so that it would only work on Dell computers.

Legal: no, OEM versions are only legal to use with the specific machine they came with.

Ethical: yes, if you really are only using the license on a single machine

Will it work: maybe. If it's a restore disc it probably looks for a Dell BIOS. If it's a normal Windows CD there is a good chance it will work.
