I ripped a DVD and encoded it on my pc. I'm trying to copy the .avi file (480megs ) to my axim which shows up as "other device" in my computer. I seleted the "storage card" folder since I want to copy it to the SD Card (483 megs free) in the PDA. The transfer keeps stopping, sometimes after 5 megs, 20 megs. I've tried it multiple times, it stops at varying times in the process. Am I missing something here? Is is because the file size is too close to the SD card capacity?

i dont think so, but i had that problem also.. i end up disable all the timer to save power.. and that didn't work too well, i just got a sandisk flash reader/writer and copy via the computer.. hope that helps

I just use my SD card reader and transfer the files that way. Then just slip the SD back into my Axim.

Which program did you use to rip and encode the DVD?

my buddy showed me a prog he had on his toshiba ppc the other day called "Pocket MVP" I think. He had an entire DVD in > 300 megs, and good quality to boot...crazy stuff...

Pocket DVD Studio. Also, a friend of mine gave me an avi file of Matrix. It plays somewhat choppy on mine, but smooth on his, he has a Treo with a 144 mhz processor. I am using Pocket MVP to play the file, it should be very smooth since it was encoded at quite a low resolution.

Buy a card reader. They are cheap (free - $10). Though it doesn?t solve the problem at hand, it will make your life sooo much easier. I find that connecting my Axim and then going thru ActiveSynch just takes much too long.

I ordered a card reader, should get it soon. Looks like the new X50 is out:

Dell Axim X50

I think since I just bought the X30, I'll wait a bit for prices to drop on this one.
