Does anyone own a Dell Axim X5? I want to get one but have been debating between the higher end and lower end model. I was gonna get the cradle with the lower end but wonder if the $80 is worth it for the faster processor and higher memory. Or should I get the lower end model with a 802.11b module?

What do you think? I have only owned a Palm m100 before but have never used Pocket PCs prior.

Thanks!

Get the fastest one now. I have bought one every year because they came out with a newer version.

coming from a palm m100, get the basic with wireless. the speed ain't gonna matter that much and memory isn't much given the two slots

i was able to obtain the x5 for under 200 after coupons and rebates. but i'll tell you what, the high end model is still not powerful enough for many things. it's a good thing dell was able to fix their ppc2003 problem "quickly". it actually runs fine, and better than 2002 now. you cant really run programs from the flash cards. so it depends on what you want to do. for me, i mostly use it as a pda and mp3 player, so it's fine. the only problem is that i use pocket streets also, and huge maps (3 MB) is too much for it to handle.

Bump - anyone know? I'm looking to trade for the Axim 300MHz version.

$30 from dell. but they have not set up an ordering system. problems still exist in upgrading the ROM, as with any ROM upgrades. there is a chance that you will wind up with a dead dell... (ROM upgrade is like a VERY LONG bios upgrade)
