Dell Axim GPS

I got the Pharos one. The GPS works fine, but the software leaves something to be desired. It's kinda a hassle to enter addresses, store favorites, and zoom in/out. Also, the voice directions could be more comprehensive.

EDIT: I got the x50v.

How much map data and points of interest can a standalone GPS device hold? I like the Axim because I can have a GPS receiver in the Compact Flash slot and a 2GB card in the SD slot and that gives me more than enough storage space for the entire country.

I think standalone GPS devices supports SD cards as well.

Yep my Garmin c320 uses SD media, that's one of the reasons I bought it.

The stock 128MB SD fits OR/WA with some room to spare.

Yeah it works great, and for less money you get a fully functioning PDA which can be used for many different things, including using it as an mp3 player in your car (if you can connect it to it) for less money than a standalone GPS. I see no reason to get a standalone one..
