It is my understanding (I don't own one) that Dell had Lexmark make special incompatable ink for the Dell line only. I don't know if that's true.

If it is true I would get another printer since they are so cheap ($100 and under) and stop printing with the Dell or sell it.

edit: Yeah, incompatable cartridge is what I heard too. Ink is the same. For what the cartridges cost, you can probably get the IP3000 (all with full cartridges) cheaper than Dell or Lexmark ink. I would try to find an IP4000 for $100 or less.

To ctcsoft,

First of all lexmark makes most dells. As I recall, lexmark and dell cartridges will interchange except
for some wierd molded bumps on the cartridge top. Do some filing of these bumps and it becomes possible for the Lexmatks cartridges to be used in a dell. I do not think the inks themselves are any different.

Except I can't remember exactly where I saw this information posted. But hopefully someone else can help debunk or confirm what I am saying.

But ignore not xgsound, junk the dell and get a Canon ip4000 or similar. You will be money ahead in no time. I too used to have a Lexmark. It still works but it no longer gets fed.--still good for an outgoing fax machine though.
