Hi im abt to get a dell 9300, i noticed it has a DVI as well as A VGA out..

Does this mean I can connect up to TWO external lcds to it, giving a total of 3 monitors (2 external + 1 laptop screen)?

Appreciate any help! Thanks!

darned... i thought i'd be able to get a triple desktop!

Thanks for the reply..

a little off topic, but would u recommend i get a 6000 or 9300.

The draw of the 9300 was the bigger wuxga + posibility of triple desktops (now i know thats not possible)

The draw of the 6000 is that its smaller/lighter, and can get slightly more upgrades for the amount im gonna spend...

Sigh.. decisions decisions

Plan on heavier gaming? 9300 with 6800 Go.
Lighter gaming and not too concerned with things like AA or AF and playing in higher resolutions? 9300 or 6000 with 128MB Radeon X300.
Only interested in playing older games or no gaming at all? 6000 with 64MB Radeon X300 or the integrated graphics.

If your're interested in the middle option, you just need to decide whats better for you. The only advantages the 9300 has over the 6000 when both are equipped with the X300 is a DVI out, 2 extra USB ports and a 17" screen.

I love my 6000. Its a nice machine. IT is the high-end of what I would consider portable though. I take it everywhere. However, I have been kicking myself for not getting a 9300. The 9300 isn't much bigger or heavier than the 6000, but the option to get the 6800 Go was a plus to me. If I had to order it again, I'd go with the 9300, but only if I was getting the 6800 Go.

hey bearxor thanks for replying...

Yeah... im still in a dilemma.. Personally, i feel higher res is more important than a powerful GPU (coz i do gfx work and need lots of desktop space).

Although both support wuxga, is wuxga on the 6000's 15.4 inch a total overkill?
The idea of trubrite 17inch wuxga on the 9300 appeals to me...

Also, the 6000 offers better batt life...

Finally, is the 9300 impossible to carry around? I don't need the SMALLEST laptop, but at least something that is reasonable to lug around... (u did mention its only a bit heavier than the 6000)

Thanks!

the UXGA on the 6000 is a bit overkill and not really worth it over the SXGA for what little bump you get. SXGA is 1680x1050 and UXGA 1920x1200. The XGA is 1280x800, so the SXGA is a decent jump. Remeber that UXGA on a 9300 is 1920x1200, and the WXGA is 1440x900.

As far as size, the 9300 is 1 1/2 inches wider, 1 inch deeper and .1 inches more thick.

6000: 1.52x14.02x10.45 6.65lbs
9300: 1.60x15.50x11.30 7.85lbs

Not much difference if you want the 17" screen and 6800 Go.

If the 17" screen, 6800 Go, DVI out and 2 extra USB ports mean nothing to you, go with the 6000.

is the 9400 the only current model with dvi out, or are there others?. I just bought a 2405 lcd, and I need dvi. The analog from my 8500 doesn't look the best.

my 9200 has dvi as does the newer 9300 and XPS's. I'm thinking about getting the 6000 with the WUXGA to replace my 9200's 1440x900. It's just too small for development purposes. But I don't think the wife will go for it ;). Right now I have my 9200 hooked up dual screen in Linux to an external 2001FP running at 1600x1200 so I'm not exactly hurting here.
