Dell 9150 strange fan problem - any ideas - it's like a train...

Just setup this new 9150 and am posting from it. A lot of people have talked about how quiet this machine is, well this one is the clear exception.

If you've seen this configuration, there's a nifty heatpipe contraption placed behine a 120 fan.

When I boot the machine the fan quickly ramps up to full RPM's and stays there. And BOY is it loud. I actually currently have it disconnected but that is scaring the crap out of me. Any thoughts on why this would occur?

Is there a prog available to monitor temps on this board. It will be used mainly for word processing, though she does want to play Sims... Can I leave the fan unplugged for the time being, relying on the heatpipe?

Thanks for the link is there a small business version? The chat won't start because the system was bought from the small business site... looking for the right area of the small business support site, isn't obvious....

no results on a search of the dell forums, and nothing from google. I am the only one in the univers with this issue apparently :(

I don't think they do chat with Small Biz, but if you're SB, go ahead and call, you get good support over the phone with SB rather than Home division.

Called and got right through... about 5 minutes later a new fan is on the way. Let's hope it's the fan and no the MB :(

She sent me email with the following:
