Ok, so I got a 9100 not too long ago used, I was using it tonight, when all the lights came on and the system just died, I unplugged it, tested the battery and its fine, but it won't come back on. I press and hold the power button and the on light comes on for about 2 seconds before going backoff, nothing else, no fans or any of the other start up noises. I am thinking perhaps it is the Power supply, but why wouldn't the battery work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Isn't it still covered under the warranty? You can call them and troubleshoot, they'll also probably end up mentioning bad capacitors, but they'll give you a better explanation most likely.

Ewww.... sounds like a system board problem.... those are very expensive problems to have

BTW I say that because they moved the circuitry that was on a daughter board until say about 10 years ago, directly onto the motherboard, im guessing to save space, so when a component goes that is involved with regulating power or switching between battery and dc input the whole system board goes.

Im guessing its out of warrenty now, so sending it back to the manufacturer is about a $400-1000 fee to get it repaired if they do need to replace the systemboard.

It might be the time to start looking at new laptops, they are rarely worth the cost of repairing, might be able to find a new systemboard on ebay, and hope that the cpu and gpu are still fine.

Nope it's not covered under warranty anymore.

One thing I did notice is when the battery is installed there is a very soft clicking sound coming from the speakers I think. When I hold down the power button the light comes on and off and every time there is a click. When I am not holding the power button there is a steady soft clicking.

Wierd, anyone everheard of anything like this?

Looking at your sig, it appears you are not running your memory in dual channel. That's not a good idea for Pentium 4 cpu's. You're crippling the performance. That is unless you are actually running two 512's and two 128's.
