i bought an ipod recently and transferring stuff with the dell 8500 laptop's onboard firewire is really poor, averaging less than 1 mbps, i bought an adaptec pcmcia card and performace is much better, 6-8 mbps

any idea, i tried searcing for drivers but cant find ne, on board firewire shouldnt really perform poorly i think

1 MBps, really? That totally sucks.

6-8 Mbps sucks too. Are you sure you don't mean 6-8 MB/s?

well yeh 6-8 MB/s my bad

but ne way the 8500's performance is bad , i dont care the speed but it crashes a lot and the songs get copied to the ipod in complete or not copied at all, something weird is going on

the laptop has the 4 pin (unpowered) firewire and the adaptect card (which i returned) had a powered 6 pin firewire port
dont see how that should make any difference though
