My new Dell 8250 has a built in ethernet hub.

I have a ~2 year old 3Com 3C9058 - TXNM FAST ETHERLINK XL PCI card. If I would install it would my DSL connection be faster? I do not want to put the card in and connect both ports to see which is faster, my PCI card or the built in port.

The on-board controller will be fine.

Neither one of the cards will come close to breaking a sweat with DSL bandwidth.

It will make no difference for dsl as you only use about 2% of the cards capabilities at most. For regular usage if I am not mistaken the 8250 uses an intel integrated nic which are usually comparable in quality to the 3com.
