Dell 8250 hardware--proprietary?

I know that Dell used proprietary components in their desktops several years ago, but I'm not sure whether or not the components in my 8250 are proprietary. Specifically, I'm thinking about the possibility of changing my motherboard and/or my power supply. Will it be possible to change just one of them without changing the other--are the parts proprietary, or are they compatible with the standard components on the retail market?

They pretty much use standard parts. I can't think of anything I've seen on a recent Dell that was proprietary.

I'm getting conflicting responses. Can somebody settle this?

He said he was getting a new case as well, that won't be a problem. However you will also want to get a new PSU, as dell uses proprietary crap, and the PSU may be wired differently and fry your new motherboard.

I know that the psu in my old D8100 is proprietary and i'm not sure about your 8250. You may want to check out Dell's support forums, they will know for sure.

You will need to get a new case, the trays and tabbed mainboard mounts that make field work cake is no good for you.
