Dell 710m comments? Anything similar?

I am looking for a very light notebook with decent performance. The Dell 710m fits the bill pretty well: 1.7Ghz CPU and built-in wireless and DVD-writer, and a very nice 12" widescreen. But I am nervous getting a Dell.

Anyone use a 710m? Is it built well and reliable? Are there any other brands similar in weight, features, and price (the 710m is regularly $1000-$1200 well equipped).

Many thanks! 🙂

Thats a very good computer for the price.. i think you can get it pretty well equip around 900 with the couponds... i had mine for about 8 days.. the samsung hdd crapped out.. i sent it back and got a hitachi 7200 instead.

what are you nervous about ?

i think some of the smaller dell notebooks are very nice and well built (going off my friends 12inch dell notebook) some of the bigger models are abit gash, but the smaller wide screen Pentium M lappy's are very nice indeed!

There have been a couple recent threads in the SFF, Notebooks forum. To get an idea of whats available I did a search on ebay, selecting first "notebook" then clicking the option that shows up on the left side of the page for screen 12" to 12.9", also searching on ultraportable gets many hits.

I have a 700m, been using it for maybe 6 months. I got it during one of the coupon times. I like it a lot, the only issue I had in the begining is that the size of the keyboard takes a bit of time to get used to but after that it's great.

I would wait till they come out with a Dual Core version. This one has literally not had any changes since its 700m days and that was a couple of years a go.

It a great laptop mind you but just a lil behind in the tech curve.

the price for all dell stuff is rock bottom right now, they are clearing stock for the new lines that are coming in this month. if you want the 710 you should get it before the deals end tomorrow, otherwise wait for the new stuff in the next few weeks and hope there are some coupons (but it'll cost more than a 710 right now).
