Observed the following issues with my touchpad as noted and trying to determine if it is hardware or software problem. I'm leaning hardware, but it is hard to reproduce:

Dell 640m Laptop - T2400 @ 1.83GHz / 2GB RAM
Right Hand Mouse Setup
Touch to Click Disabled
Edge Scrolling Enabled

Windows XP Pro SP3
-- On occasion the left button functions as a right button. Hitting alt-tab a few times fixes the problem
-- Seems to only occur after closing IE8
-- Windows no longer installed on the laptop

Ubuntu 9.10
-- Using the vertical scroll will occasional cause a "right click" to happen.
-- Can be reproduced with somewhat of ease (I.e. fast scrolling normally makes it happen after a couple of minutes).
-- Two finger scrolling is disabled, only vertical edge scrolling enabled.

This laptop is a little over 3 years old and works great other than this occasional glitch.

Any ideas?

Check that you have the correct drivers in place for the touch pad. Drivers may be currupt on the windows side and you may not have the right drivers or access to the features you want while in Ubuntu.

In windows it was the drivers provided by Dell. In Ubuntu it is default that was installed.

What i'm saying is the Dell drivers may have gotten currupted requiring a simple reinstall to fix the problem. As for Ubuntu the stock drivers probably don't support the feature of side scroll. Or if it does its not matching up with the hardware properly.
