Dell 6000D Problem

Just purchased a Dell 6000D using the $750 off $1500. Now, I had this problem with my Acer Ferrari notebook and couldn' find the fix, but hopefully now I will.

The default resolution on this screen is 1680x1050, which is what my Dell 2005FPW uses. However, this screen is only like 14", so to combat that problem, Dell has made all the icons huge. Not only that, but all the icon spacing is really weird. 🙁 I've tried to fix it by manually setting the icon size and the horizontal/vertical spacing, but it's still all funny looking.

The next problem is, the start menu, quick launch and system tray buttons are all fuzzy and stretched. Here's a picture of how it looks: http://www.mrcodedude.com/pix/102004/fuzzy.PNG

Is there a fix for this? I'm tempted to reformat just to get rid of all the Dell crap. There are at least 16 programs that are running on startup. :Q

- Are you SURE you're using the NATIVE resolution of the desktop?

- Dells use a taskbar utility (I forget the name and my laptop is in the car) that does a variety of desktop management including customize the desktop for widescreen or hi-res displays by altering the fonts and the icons. I have to use it on my Dimension 5150 because I have a whopping 1600 x 1200 15" LCD display on it and it would be impossible to read anything at that res using any of Window's standard settings.

- You can also give Dell tech support a call. They're usually pretty responsive during the day (they get heavy call volume in the evening) and it's a pretty simple question that they should be able to answer for you.

- Alternately Dell has a good technical forum on their web site. Do a search - I'm sure you're not the only one who's run into the problem.

BTW: The quick launch tray buttons will always look fuzzy after you resize the fonts and icons. This is an old WIndows bug. They stay fuzzy until you reboot.
