Dell 6000 Inspiron Laptop

My wifes laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000 and whenever we unplug it from the wall and run on a fully charged battery the internet stops working. The signal strength still shows excellent, however none of the webpages will open.
I have a Dell Inspiron 5600 and it will work with the battery and power pluged in, infact my Dell shows less signal strength, usually good instead of excellent and I have no problems. I purchased a spare battery for the Dell 6000 and still have the same problem. Any advise?

Here are some additional details.

Wireless Card: Internal Intel Pro Wirless 2200BG (default settings) Drivers 10/21/04 Microsoft Hardware Compatible

There is a setting in the Dell Quickset Utility (should be running as a taskbar icon) then lets you set power saving features. One of them disables the WiFi NIC when on battery. This is usually disabled by default (so WiFi works on battery) but maybe someone at Dell had a brain fart, or the wife messed around with it.

Hope this helps...
