Inspiron 6000 has a built in SD memory card reader.

Thought SD and MMC were compatible.

Am i doing something wrong? or does the 6000 only see SD cards?

i dont have a SD card, so i cant tell. :(

but shouldnt the sd reader be able to read mmc's since sd's were created to be backward compatible with mmc?

It should, but it may be a faulty reader or may be a driver issue.

I've tested mine with SD and it works. I've tried putting in an MMC from a Palm and it doesn't read. Then again, the Palm won't read the SD card I tried in it. Dunno what the issue is.

"Systems using the Ricoh R5C841 controller are SDCard compatible only. MMC is not a compatible card type. "

how do i know if my 6000 is using the Ricoh R5C841 controller? or are all 6000's using it?

At this time I would assume that all affected models use that chipset. Hmmm, perhaps you can insert an SD card and then poke around Device Manager...
