dell 6 cell (53whr) battery dies fast~

Hey guys, thanks for helping me select the INspiron 6000. Its awesome.
I have a concern though, I have the 6 cell battery, and man this thing DIES fast.

I'm talking 1.5 hours. I think it came precharged from the factory so I used it till it depleted then recharged it. anyways, it says it will last 2 hours, at 100% capacity, but in reality, it goes through much quicker than that.

Am i doing something wrong here? I just use it for email and internet surfing. Why does it die so soon?

Please help,

TIA

Probably not doing anything wrong. The battery on my 9300 died in about the same amount of time even though Dell's website said it can last up to 3 hours. I returned the laptop (after going through two support and one return session) and got the 9 cell battery. They told me after my second support call that the battery really only lasts about 1.5 hours. The 9 cell lasts longer (about 2.5 hours). Basically, I'd call their tech support and find out what the REAL battery life is supposed to be. If you're not happy with the real life, I'd return it and get the 9 cell. My 8600 would last for 3-4 hours and there's no reason the 6000 shouldn't.

Thank you.

I wonder though if i should return this and get a new one, because I believe they charge 99 dollars for a 9 cell battery. I can get it for around this much on Ebay. That way I can keep two batteries.

But when you did return it, how much additional did you pay?

Thanks.

Is there any power saving options i can use?j

thanks

I am getting about 2.5 hours playing DVD's with 6 cell in i9200 (mr9700, 1.8GHz P-M).
Close to 3 hours web browsing.
My system is one of the worst ones, as others are reporting better times.
Users with 9 cell battery are reporting close to 5 hours.

The i9300 users that have 6800go video are reporting about 2.5 hours with 9 cell.
XPS2 with 6800 Ultra comes standard with 9 cell.

Make sure quickset is installed and properly set up.
My CPU drops to around 600MHz when running on battery, and screen brightness drops 2 clicks.

I had the same issues with my I6000. I called customer service and told them I would like to return the laptop. With a lesser system than the one that they were quoting the battery life from I was only getting 3 hours with wifi turned off and mid brightness settings. Quickset was set to balanced. They did not want it back so they shipped me a 9 cell for free. This battery sells for $179 on the acc site but it is the same battery as my XPS2 which sells for $129😕

You got a nice deal and got lucky on the battery. I called in and they wouldn't even consider giving me a new battery. Any tips? thanks!

Hmm.. That's pretty odd. My brother's 6000 easily goes for at least 2.5-3 hours on his 6 cell. about 4 hours on his 9 cell
Did you do a clean reformat of your computer when you got it?
Dell put TONS O CRAP on their laptops that use quite of bit of cpu resources.
Hit ctrl-alt-del and check out your task manager and see how much your laptop is using in idle
The cpu utilization should be less then 10%
Also check out a program call i8kfangui
it allows you to control the fan settings since the default that dell uses has the fans run
ALL THE TIME
Let me know how this works....

The quickset program was a tremendous help. I have gone up to about 3 hours i believe. The screen is dimmer, and probably the cpu as well, but that is fine by me.

Thanks for the link to buying the other battery. its a help.

Thanks guys.

if you have quickset running and you're just doing web surfing you should be able to get around 5 - 6 hours out of that 9 cell battery.

Don't really understand Dell's pricing?

If you order from Dell just go for the 9 cell XPS 2 battery and save some bucks 🙂

Works great in my i9300 and saved 50.00 plus was given a 50.00 coupon for my trouble's so wound up getting one for 86.00 shipped.

With a 90% charge I was able to watch Star Wars Episode 2 and still had 12% left when movie was done....For a desktop replacement with a huge 17" True Life screen I would consider this to be acceptable 🙂

The inspiron 6000 should last quite a bit longer than the 9300 with the 6800 card.

1.5 is a broken battery if the CPU is not loaded.

I would start with the system monitor and see whether some random process is drawing CPU cycles all the time.
