I'm trying to make my in-laws old Dell 545s a bit more usable. I added a 240gb SSD drive and did a fresh install of Windows 10. It's not terrible, but I'd like to add a couple of additional old sticks of RAM I have in a drawer.

For this 545s, it has 2x2gb sticks of RAM in banks 1 and 3 (2 and 4 are empty). I installed the extra 2x1gb sticks I had in banks 2 and 4 and it sounds like it starts up, but no display screen.

I removed the original sticks and installed the 2x1gb sticks into banks 1 and 3 and it booted fine.

I then added the 2x2gb sticks to banks 2 and 4 and it again did not get to the boot screen.

Per the online 545s manual, those should all be paired correctly (1&3 and 2&4) and the system should be able to take up to 8gb RAM so I'd think 6gb should be fine too, right?

Here's links to photos of the sticks. Thanks!
