dell 5160 build up

hi i could use some input if anyone has the time...ordered a dell 5160 notebook a couple of days ago, went cheap on video card, hard drive, and other stuff because i'd seen deals on dealcatcher, etc., so i thought i'd be real slick and order upgrades elsewhere. come to find out lots of stuff won't work on a laptop and that they're not easy to change things out on. (i'm kinda a novice). so i figure i'll call dell, have them make changes to my order. upgrade video card to "64MB DDR NVIDIA® GeForce? FX Go5200 AGP 4x Graphics", since i hear that that's one of the few that works with the 5160. got 30gb hd, thought about upgrade but figured i'd get a maxtor 200gb external and deal with 30 when i'm on the run. got basic cd/dvd drive (thought i was slick) so now i'm thinking about the laCie d2 dual 8X dvd±rw--good review on cnet, real fast burn, etc...for a router i figure d-link di-624. any input? ideas? i didn't get software, thought i'd pick it up "elsewhere"--don't know what networking equip. i'll need, want a tv tuner--i'm kinda in the dark, but need a computer for school and couldn't pass up a $750 off deal that dell was offering. could really use any help anyone can offer. thanks a lot--mp

oh yeah and i could probably stand to have a backup battery--wouldn't mind finding it online if i knew a name, model #, specs, or something. THANKS!! mp

Well gang...it's his first post...can't really flame him. But MAN, is he way off or what? 😀

SFF/notebooks (SFF) or General Hardware (GH) should be fine for most of it.

For the router, do a search in the networking forum. The "which router is the best" question comes up every once in a while, and I doubt the answer changes that often.

For the TV tuner you could ask in video about USB based ones, or just include it in a larger post in GH or SFF. Whichever you find to be easier.

Good luck, and hope that helps. 🙂

I was only nice about it because you're new. 😉

The lyrics are from KMFDM, but I don't know the name of the song off hand. Punk's ok. 🙂
