Dell 5000e problems. Help me figure out if it's mobo, cpu or video.

I have a laptop (Dell i5000e) that won't boot. It powers up, then holds for about 2 seconds, and power shuts off again. It repeats this cycle infinitely. I see NOTHING on the screen this whole time, it is completely black. Switching to video out shows nothing either.

If I switch the RAM out and put in some 133mhz ram in, it powers up, then holds... and does nothing.

I have about 7 sticks of memory to test with, and I tested the HDD in another computer so that works. Power supply holds a charge, but it doesn't matter cos I'm running from AC adapter.

I think it's either the mobo, cpu, or video. What do you think it could be?

Thanks.

battery? adapter?

is your system under warranty? you can always try them and they'll see what you can do, because ultimately, if it's a mobo issue, it's gonna be dell who will probably replace it for you.

can you get into dell diagnostics at all? (i'm assuming no.) if so, you should fully test the system to see what is causing a failure.

i really think you need to call dell about it. if it's not under warranty, you may be SOL unless you're willing to pay big bucks for repair.

You may want to try removing the Battery, Hard Drive, any PCMCIA cards, and
Optical drive from the unit (remember to remove the AC before removing).

Re-connect the AC adapter and see if it fires up.
