Hello

I have a Dell 4700, P4 system. This PC when I turned it on last week the power light starts green then turns orange, The fans spin, The standby light on the board works,
On the back of the PC is 4 lights ABCD. ( ACD ) are green ( B ) is orange. After about 40 seconds it will shut off and sometimes it will repeat everything above.. But sometimes it wont do that.. But the board standby light is on when U connect the AC Power..

ANy ideas what may be going on with it. Im not getting Video, Beeps, Nothing except the power lights coming on and the fans spinning for a few seconds.

ANy help is appreciated..

Thanks
Dave

Diagnostic lights and beep error codes for the 4700 are located here.

Dell doesn't have a code listed for all green except for light "B". However, both error configurations where B is amber (along with A or D) are memory related. Therefore, I would pull all RAM from the system (with the AC power disconnected of course) then try to turn the computer back on with no RAM installed at all. You should get two long beeps then three short beeps indicating the computer recognizes no RAM is installed. If you don't get that error then it's likely a motherboard (or CPU) failure). If so, remove the CPU and turn the computer on again and see if you get a beep error code of two long beeps and two short beeps. This error would indicate that the motherboard is probably OK but the CPU is not.

psu sounds like the culprit here. Dell PSU's suck and my gf's 4600 did similar things... it would work time to time... finally replaced the PSU and it is stable now. My 4550 PSU went haywire here at work as well.

Sorry to hear that. Did you try what Fardringle suggested before getting a psu? Oh, it shouldn't really matter but what kind of psu did you pick up?
