I was one of the lucky poeple who actually got the 4600 when it was a "steal". It has an Intel 865PE board, and I was wondering if it would be able to use a Celeron 2.4 in it? It looks like it only has 533/800 support and might not work. Any ideas?

It should work fine with that chipset. I wouldn't get the celeron. I would look for a refurb 2.4c p4 at newegg's website, if you are lucky enough to find one. They sell out in seconds. They were about $125, but the price may have dropped.

I believe I grasp your intent if I deduced correctly based on your extensive heatware being in your sig ;) You took the CPU the system came with for other purposes and you plan to sell the Dell with a Celery in it and make a couple bucks, no? The 2.4ghz Celery will work fine so have at it

You get my intent ALMOST perfectly. I am going to use the PC as a HTPC and really the 2.4 is overkill...as was the ATI 9800 NP (which is now flashed to a Pro Bios and in my PC). I want to use the 2.4 in a new PC I am building for myself and after doing the "upgrade" thing thru my families' PC's I'll have a PC to sell to someone locally. I put an ATI 8500 in the Dell 4600 and it works great on my 53" Hitach HDTV.
