dell 4150 questions

I know Dell insperon 8200 has a mounted CPU and a videocard that can be taken out, but here's a follow up question. How hard is it to obtain those parts for an upgrade and how much. I like the idea of being aale to easily fix or upgarde my notebook, but if it comes at a cost of limited supply and high price, then it really makes no difference at all if things are intergrated or not.

Call dell spare parts..they will gladly sell you new CPUs and graphics cards and stuff. Sorry...don't know the number.

I know you need to order it with the motherboard, but what if I were to get a 8200 (4150 is for my g/f), how much and how easy is it to obtain a videocard or processer for the notebook.

Also, since I might get an 8200, you think I could get a videocard and say it is fo rmy notebook and put it in the 4150?

i don't think the video card in the 8200 is the same as the one in the 4150 or the guys in dell talk would have tried it. some of those guys are nuts. the videocard for the 8200 is upgradeable since dell hasn't changed it in a while, but its no gaurantee that the 8300 or whatever will use the same slot.

well, more importantly...how practical is it to upgrade a notebook? If it is that much of a big deal, then how come other big manufactures have not jumped on the same bandwagon of non-intergrated parts?

Thanks🙂. So, say the 8300 has a different slot and at that time they came out with a new video card for it, we will call that video card video X. Will Dell have parts of video X for the 8200? or does dell only sell what they get for a specific model.

Also, My g/f is getting a 4150 with 16 MB of video RAM (ATI 7500). She would like to play the occasional game, but I am guessing that 16 MB is not enough?????

This upgrading thing will Dell notebooks is becoming bit of a hassle. I am thinking that it may not even be worth the trouble.🙁

most notebooks have very limited upgradability. the fact that an 8000 owner can put the latest video into his system is almost the best upgradability ever. dell probably won't have parts for video x for the 8200 if video x comes out on the 8300 if the 8300 doesn't have the same connection inside. and even if it does, they might sell it bundled with mobo only, like on the 4000 series.

as for the 4150 with 16 meg 7500, that depends on the game. the sims should be fine. doom 3 won't be.
