Dell 4100 printer port power

Is there any way to boost the power out of my printer port to 5 volts? I am trying to program a chip and my dell dosent seem to have enough voltage. I believe its about 3.3 volts. I have tried the programmer on 2 different dell 4100's and get a message about an error writing to flash memory. I tried the same programmer on a Compaq and it worked fine. Any ideas.
