Good Evening Everyone.

Well, I had a very weak moment and robbed all my piggy banks, called in some IOUs, and figured the credit card had a bit more room on it, and then I went ahead an indulged myself - I bought one of the new Dell 3008WFP monitors. It arrived today, and all I can say is WOW! I've never seen anything quite this monitor. In native 2560 x 1600 resolution, this thing is a sight to behold.

Now I know that Dell is really socking it to everyone with the sky high price on this monitor, and that's sure a fair criticism of this thing. But I respectfully suggest that if you want the best - this is it. The display is crystal clear (I'm running it on a 8800GTX card), and shows no bad pixels, no evidence of smearing on fast moving images, no ghosting - nothing but a fabulous picture. DVD movies are likewise great - like being in the theater.

So, for anyone thinking of taking the plunge for a 30" monitor, I would heartily recommend this baby - it rocks!

Best regards to everyone. TheBeagle :D

Good Evening Mr. Syntax.

I'm not quite sure if your post is in jest or a challenge? If it's in jest, I'm sorry to disappoint you, since, although I can certainly take a digital picture of the monitor, I don't have any way to post it so you could view it If it's a challenge, I'm equally sorry to disappoint you, since I don't believe that I "owe" you any proof of anything.

Of course, you are perfectly welcome to spend $1,999.00 + shipping + tax and find out for yourself if your agree with me or not. Indeed, that might be an excellent idea, and then you can make your own judgment about the monitor.

Best regards to everyone. TheBeagle :D

Good Evening Again Mr. Syntax,

If you put 3008WFP in Google, you should come up with several Dell web sites that offer a number of very good pictures, including one feature that allows the monitors, and its various sub-features to be seen from a 360 degree rotating view. The monitor was first introduced in New Zealand about 2 weeks ago, and then subsequently in the USA early this week. However, it has already received the "Editor's Choice" award from Hot Hardware here: Editor's Choice Award

There's already a bunch of pics available out there on this new monitor, all much better than I could ever take and post. Enjoy.

Best regards to everyone. TheBeagle :D

Hey there Beagle, hope this doesn't infuriate you, though I would check this thread out at Hardforum and maybe return your 3008 to try and get $500 off. Good luck!

Though my 42" vizio is far from perfect, no video card can play crysis maxed out at 1920x1080, so, I'll keep my 42" for $1300. But I'm happy your happy.

I dont blame you for not wanting to show pics, and completly respect your choice not to share pics (and agree w/ it to some extent). To say you have no way of sharing pics is a bit of a stretch. I never signed up w/ a photosharing service before because I had no need.
Here my friend Hugo playing WoW (stupid a_ _ game):

My Kandalf:

So to say you have no way to post the pics you have the ability to take but choose not to, is incorrect by my perception

How does this display scale resolution. How does 1920x1200 look on it? Is it crisp? That's my main concern as I think 2560x1600 is too high of a res for me (but I like having the option available :)).

Good Evening Mr. Jack-B.

As you may know, Dell finally wised up and put a scaling chip in the 3008WFP (the 3007WFP didn't have one). I tried the 1920 x 1200 and it looks just fine, however, the 2650 x 1600 is truly the way to go. I changed the default font size in Vista 64 to 120 DPI, and that improved readability, without sacrificing any resolution. I believe that Vista scales the default font size much better than WinXP. With a screen size this vast, the 2560 x 1600 doesn't seem at all out of place. In fact now that I've gotten used to this big baby, I'm getting rather spoiled by all this screen real estate and the high resolution to boot. Also, the color, contrast and brightness are outstanding. In fact, I had to use the nVidia utility to tone down the brightness a bit, since at 50%, it was screaming at you. I found that 45% brightness is more than sufficient for my 8800GTX card.

I had a Dell 2707WFP (my wife inherited that item) and I can certainly tell the difference with the 3008WFP. I'm sure our colleague Mr. Bateluer, is correct in his belief that the price will come down in time. But, since I wanted to indulge myself now, I just had to swallow the premium price. The place that this thing really shines is while watching a DVD movie - it's like being in the theater.

I hope the foregoing answers some of your concerns. All I can say is GO FOR IT!

Best regards. TheBeagle :D

Welcome to the 2560x1600 club ;)

The reason we ask for pics is because it's nice to see a user's vs. some review sites.

I realize that in Windows, you'd never want to run a lower rez than 2560x1600, but what about in games?

I have yet to find a really good response from those with the 30"ers sporting the hardware scalers on this.

I mean seriously, if you play various different games, how badly noticeable is the scaling of say 1920x1200 up to 2560x1600, or even lower scaled up, & does antialiasing hide it, etc. etc.

I keep asking all the posters who have those with the 30"ers with scalers & as i mentioned, i never get a detailed response, if at all.

Thanx.

lol@ 480p dvd on that thing.

why not run some real HD material thru it?

QFT!!!

480p on anything more than a 19" LCD is totally inadequate. Even with a nice real-time ffdshow / avisynth script combination of sharpening, noise reduction, and scaling up to 1600p, it's just not enough! Feed that baby a nice HD-DVD like Black Snake Moan or Planet Earth and prepare to be wowed. That's the only way to really experience a movie these days!! 1080p FTW.

I wish it was available at 1920x1200

That native resolution is just too damn big... no video card or COMBINATION of video cards can output maxed image quality on high end games.

So you have to deal with the degradation of image resizing.

No kidding. I couldn't stand more than 5 secs on my HP3065. Now, I know the monitor has a scaler so maybe it does a miracle? Personally I am spoiled by Blu-Ray/HD-DVD and even up-converted DVDs won't do it for me. (And that is to 1080p. With this monitor, we're talking about 1600p..)

Read some of the reviews. The built in scaler included on the 3008 looks like it does a GREAT job at 1920x1200 and is VERY close to the sharpness of the native res when playing games.

No.

Resolution is the whole appeal of the 30".

I'm sorry, but if you want big, get a massive TV (like many do), & enjoy the huge ugly pixels from afar.

Aside from the latest most demanding games, you can run most at that resolution, often even with maxed settings with a solid card like the 8800 GTX.

Heck, i owned an X1900 XT when i first got my 3007WFP & was still able to run many games at 2560x1600.

And for those that you don't want to turn the settings down on some games, you can always run 1:1 pixel mapping @ lower resolutions with black bars around the sides, preserving your picture quality.

Where can I see some pics comparing the quality at native res 2560x1600 with scaled 1920x1200 for this monitor? I would trade my 3007wfp-hc for this one, just to have better scaling. Crysis and some newer games are killers at 2560x1600.

Good Evening Everyone.

After a number of weeks of using this monitor I can report that it continues to work just great and properly scales everything that I throw at it. My friend ordered one and had to wait almost 6 weeks to get it. The demand must be staying quite high, so that's probably why the price hasn't come down.

Best regards to everyone. TheBeagle :D

Good Morning Everyone.

Does anyone know the REAL TRUTH as to why Dell yanked the 3008WFP monitor off their site? I have this monitor, and it has been working just GREAT since I first got it. Seeing as how I also spent extra $ for the extended 5 year warranty, I'm now a bit concerned about some undisclosed problem with this monitor. However, as I said, mine works just fine - so far.

If anyone knows (not speculation) the real for Dell withdrawing this monitor from being offered for sale, I'd like to know about it. Thanks.

Best regards to everyone. Have a nice day. TheBeagle
