DELL 2407WFP or 2007WFP?

Looking into an XPS 700 from Dell. I know it's a cursed machine, but i dont have a choice. (And i'm getting a 50% discount! 😀) I'll be running 2 7900GTX's in SLI.

I'm wondering if i should choose to go with the 2407WFP and just hope i get a rev. A03, or go with the 2007WFP. Money isn't an issue. I'll be using the LCD for PC/Xbox gaming 90% of the time. Who is going to be the better performer - size ignored?

Also! If i choose to go with the 2407WFP will i be able to play games in a resolution lower than 1920x1200 and have them still look good? I know theres an issue with LCD's being blurry on their lower-than-native resolutions. If i'm gaming, and i chose to play at perhaps 1650x1080 will it still be crisp?

Thanks!

Where can I read about probs with this monitor...can yoou refer me to a specific post or posts.

Thanks

My 2405 at 1680X1050 still looks good to me in games but anything lower not so much in my purely subjective opinion. I also have 7900GTX in SLI

Go for the 2407wfp. The 20" doesn't have component inputs to support the Xbox360 (though I guess you could do it by VGA...). Also, the 2007wfp only has the height of a 17" 5:4 LCD; for Xbox360 and other games, it's a bit small by today's standards. The 24" is a good size 🙂 . The best thing you could do is go somewhere you can see the two screens side by side; once you see the 24" and just how much bigger it is, the 20" will look tiny.

Search around here and you'll see that people are really unhappy with the performance of the component inputs on the 2407 with the 360. However, I believe they say the VGA input works alright. I own a 2407 and use it only for my PC and must say it's a hell of a lot of desktop real estate and it's pretty sharp. I love it.

You can check the revision from just the back nameplate - it'll be clearly marked. I haven't put on gradient patterns on my 2407 (Rev. A02), but it looks and works great. I figure if you're just primarily doing gaming, you won't notice 90% of the reported problems with the 2407, some of which I think have been fixed. If you're doing some serious graphics workstation stuff, you may want to look elsewhere.

Native resolution looks a bit better than 1680x1050, it's hard to quantify, but noticeable when you're playing high res games. Your XPS should be able to push that rez easily, however.

I didn't use the component inputs for my XBOX 360 before it got relegated to the living room, but the VGA input works great. Don't buy the overpriced M$ version, though - the Pelican VGA adapter can be had for half that amount and performs fine.

If you want to ever use component inputs for either the xbox 360 or a hdtv avoid this monitor like the plague... I got one realized how bad the inputs are and its seems to be hardware level where its not going to be fixed. sent to back to dell and got a samsung where everything just works.
