Japanese customers have gotten the first Dell 2407 monitors in and are posting some reviews...I've included info over at my blog (http://techanovitas.blogspot.com)) along with links illustrating some potentially disturbing issues...

mainly, color banding, poor text display, and image quality that's inferior to even the 2405! also, the 2407 is not supporting 1080i, only 720p (although it's not a big issue to me, 720p would be good enough for the few times i watch video on the PC monitor)...

i KNOW it's only the early reports of a FEW users, but the thought of waiting for the 2407, if it's priced "right", going through 5 revisions before it's "acceptable" SUCKS!...

I'm was hoping the 2405's get down to the $500 figure again on eBay again. I hope this 2407 news don't hurt my chances on the 2405.

if the 2405, after all its revisions, gets down to 500 USD i might grab one...500 for a 24'' lcd is too good to pass up...but HDCP will continue to bother me...as i've said before, if i'm going to shell out the cash for an LCD, just the IDEA that's it's capable of doing something but it's "hobbled" on purpose KILLS me...maybe i'll watch a DVD once on my screen, instead of on TV, and if it's downgraded it will drive me crazy...probably insane on my part, but still...

It's true that the few initial reports out of Australia and Japan were bad news for people who wanted the 2407, but as is the way with revisions on hardware, things may be looking up...I've been following the firmware update on the A00 panels ---->http://techanovitas.blogspot.com/

revision A01 isn't confirmed yet, it will be interesting to see if the American release is a full A01 version...

the banding issue seems to be on the mend, and it was the more serious issue than the slight text "fuzziness"....

Not sure what you mean by "not supporting 1080i" since LCDs are progressive.

I sincerely doubt Dell would have a 1920x1200 resolution LCD capable of displaying 1080p in all its glory downgrade source material to inferior 720p...

There are component inputs on the 2407. 1080i is not supported through them

Ok...but to say the 2407 does not support 1080p is completely false! 1080p will pass through a DVI connection like water...so therefore the 2407 WILL do 1080p...

But this is an important point because many people use the 24" models as a seperate HDTV by adding a standalone tuner. Not supporting 1080i is a pretty big deal in that regards.

I wonder if these issues aren't why the 2407 has not shown up for sale in the U.S. yet. I would imagine that North America is probably Dell's biggest market, and so they might have delayed launching it to resolve the problems before hand. At least lets hope so.

The text fuzziness would be a big issue for me, since thats one of the reasons I like LCDs better is the text clarity and sharpness. Also, no 1080 support through component would be a problem too, although the fact that it would do 720p is helpful, but obviously having 1080 support would be much better. And banding, while it doesn't bother me that much, is still a major issue that seems to just be the result of poor circuitry, and so should be a non-issue.

The more I hear, the better the 2405 sounds if you're looking for something in that size for not a whole lot of money, as the only shortcoming it seems to have over the 2407 is that it doesn't support HDCP, but the recent news seems to show that is going to be a non-issue.
